Independent plans race for governor continued....

With large glasses and a salt-and-pepper beard, Boyer emits a sense of easygoing rural authenticity. A farmer since 1972, he found his place on the family farm when his father had rented additional acres and needed the help. Prior to that, Boyer served a stint in the military and spent a few years studying at both the University of North Dakota and the North Dakota State College of Science.He also runs Brotherhood Homes, a builder of handcrafted custom log homes.

Boyer, 58, acknowledges that the race will be difficult. He has no
party support and will be facing John Hoeven, a popular Republican
Party incumbent who’s running for an unprecedented third four-year
term. On the Democratic side, Fargo State Sen. Tim Mathern is the only officially declared candidate.
